WHAT IS PETTY INTRIGUES
Tell us something
Petty Intrigues began life in 2014, dreamed up by Kerry Levier, Kitty Bagiou, Paul Douglas, Amy Charleston and Pete Ewing. It arrived to a warm, curious crowd and, though short-lived, its one-year run became packed with unforgettable speakers. People spoke about archaeology and relationships, raising ten children, theories (not all conspiratorial) about aliens and government control, the bullet train party, robots, fishing—you name it. Interests big and small, mundane and strange.
What they all shared was one thing: passion.
Experts and novices alike stood up and spoke about the thing that quietly lit them up. And that’s the heart of a Petty Intrigue. Because interested people are interesting.
After quite a hiatus, we’re bringing Petty Intrigues back—this time with a special edition featuring Wayne Slattery. The new home will be the Brunswick Artists’ Bar, with hopes of making it a monthly gathering.
The format is simple: a 10–12 minute talk, followed by a Q&A. These nights are enlightening for a curious crowd, and thrilling for speakers who may not usually take a stage—or who may have a petty intrigue that even their closest friends don’t know about.
Sometimes it’s an amazing thing to hear a friend speak about something you never knew they loved. You already love them. Then you discover what they love. And suddenly the room gets a little bigger.
